1. ADHD: NUEVAS PERSPECTIVAS EN EVALUACIÓN, NEUROBIOLOGIA, GÉNETICA Y TRATAMIENTO
ADHD: NEW PERSPECTIVES ON ASSESSMENT, NEUROBIOLOGY, GENETICS AND TREATMENT
As one of the world’s foremost researchers in developmental biopsychiatry, Dr. Teicher brings a career’s worth of knowledge to his presentations. Dr. Teicher is well known from the popular press and television (including 20/20, Newsweek, Time and many others) where his work has been discussed for the general public.
ADHD is one of the most common neuropsychiatric disorders of childhood. It is associated with severe consequences in multiple domains (medical, educational, occupational, and legal)
This talk will focus on our research program’s efforts to: (1) enhance the accuracy of diagnosis; and (2) to make selection and titration of pharmacotherapy a rapid and reliable undertaking, through the use of objective bio behavioral measures. Research will be presented showing that ADHD may be related to an imbalance in the functional activity of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, striatum (putamen and caudate nucleus) and cerebellar vermis. Castellano’s complementary hypothesis that ADHD may related to a disturbance in low-frequency (multisecond) oscillations in brain function and behavior will also be discussed, along with supporting data.
Individuals with ADHD often respond much more favorably to one medication than another, and there appears to be discernible differences in objective measures of behavior between individuals with ADHD who respond well to methylphenidate, which blocks the dopamine transporter, versus those who respond preferentially to atomoxetine, which blocks norepinephrine transport. Differences in drug responsivity may relate to genetic studies, which have identified genetic variants (polymorphisms) in receptors and transporters regulating dopamine and norepinephrine neurotransmission.
2. AUTISMO: ¿QUIEN NUTRE A LOS NUTRIDORES?
AUTISM: WHO'S NURTURING THE NURTURERS?
Dr. Kerzner shares pearls of wisdom in an engaging, empowering manner. He leaves his audiences with a sense that someone else understands their limitations and “it’s OK” to not be a perfect parent or caregiver. Parents and caregivers of children with autism face unique and difficult challenges in bonding with their children. The “normal’ adult/child attachment is negatively effected. This presentation will discuss these difficulties and ways to therapeutically help and support parents and caregivers.
He will discus the neurological underpinnings of autism affect the usual form of bonding and attachment between child/parent. How the parents and child with autism have to "work at" creating their own, unique patterns of effective communication How the families with a child with autism have initially to deal with the feeling of frustration, impotence, anger and self denigration. How the
therapeutic team can help the parent/family achieve the necessary resilience to understand
how natural their feelings of frustration, sorrow and anger- and self blame are part and parcel of this condition-how it effects the entire family. The support and sustained nurturing of these nurturers assists parent/family/child to get to a place of improved self esteem, sense of competence, commitment and love for each other.
Autism should be viewed from a Holistic point of view; rather than just focusing on the multiple needs of the child, there is a need for a new understanding of how this condition has multiple effects on the entire family, and the treatment team needs to attend to "Nurturing the Nurturers".

4. DE MÚSICA A METAMÚSICA: REALZANDO EL APRENDIZAJE ACELERADO A TRAVÉS DE LA MÚSICA Y LA METAMÚSICA.
MUSIC TO METAMUSIC -- ENHANCE QUANTUM LEARNING THROUGH MUSIC AND HEMI- SYNC
To demonstrate the use of particular styles of music and Metamusic to stimulate the brain to speed up learning and the facilitate the greater retention of learned material. It’s use on those with learning challenges, such as ADD/ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia to accelerate learning and help sensory integration.
Metamusic uses binaural beats, they originate in the brainstem's superior olivary nucleus,
the site of contra lateral integration of auditory input. The binaural beat is neurologically conveyed to the reticular formation which uses neurotransmitters to initiate changes in brain-wave activity.

9. APRENDIZAJE BASADO EN EL CONOCIMIENTO DEL CEREBRO
BRAIN-BASED TEACHING
With the abundance of brain research, never has it been more important to bring medical and educational models together. Shirley will share what she has learned as a mother to a child with an undiagnosed neurological dysfunction and how that impacts her work with students. Ms. Storey King has been a classroom teacher for twenty-four years. She has been a learner for a lifetime! Her experiences as a mother to a son with special needs have had a significant influence on her work in the classroom.
The presenter will discuss the idea that children's behavior is adaptive and related closely to environment. The behaviors have a tendency to color our perceptions of the children and their characters. Ultimately, however, all children are responding to the same set of basic needs. The presentation will conclude with some practical suggestions on managing behavior proactively
10. LAS PERCEPCIONES RELATIVAS DEL COMPARTAMIENTO DE LOS NIÑOS EN DIVERSOS ENTORNOS
RELATIVE PERCEPTIONS OF CHILDRENS BEHAVIOR IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTS
The presenter will discuss the idea that children's behavior is adaptive and related closely to the environment. It’s common undesirable behaviors in children, the perceptions and responses to such behavior on the part of adults, the responsive/adaptive nature of such behavior, and its relation to environment/external triggers and the tools for the management of such behavior.
The behaviors have a tendency to color our perceptions of the children and their characters. Ultimately, however, all children are responding to the same set of basic needs. The presentation will conclude with some practical suggestions on managing behavior proactively.

17. ADD
Professor Barbara Bullard has been an active member of the Professional Institute of The Monroe Institute for the past 18 years and directly involved with helping to create new types of Metamusic that aid learning and retention, especially in those with ADD and other learning challenges.
She will discuss current research indicative of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire from particular inputs and acquisition of new information. The research of Dr. Daniel Amen and others will also be examined which indicates the deficiency of Beta brainwaves in the left hemisphere of the cortex of the brain in those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD/Dyslexia. The importance of “connected thinking” strategies for the current generation of learners will be examined. Specific hemi-sync technology selections will be examined which are conducive to facilitating a positive impact on the neuroplasticity of the brain---one which permanently aid learning and retention. Also the helpful aids of hemi-sync for sleep disruption will also be discussed.
